My Tho and Thoi Son Island

P001 My Tho (美拖) is approx 40 miles southwest of Ho Chi Minh City.

P002 Due to its proximity to Ho Chi Minh City, My Tho was the traditional gateway to the Mekong Delta.

P003 The city is named after the My Tho River.

P004 My Tho has a population of 220K in 2012.

P005 Around My Tho are numerous river islands which can be visited by boat.

P006 The four largest islands are: Con Tan Long (Dragon Island), Con Qui (Tutle Island), Con Phung (Phoenix Island) and Con Lan (Unicorn Island).

P007 Con Tan Long (Dragon Island) is the most densely populated and the closest. Con Thoi San (Unicorn Island) is the largest with a tropical garden.

P008 Con Qui (Turtle Island) is the smallest and Con Phung (Phoenix Island) has the Temple of the Coconut Monk.
